Welcome to the application (the “Application”) of ECO-READY. This Application is operated by the Intelligent Systems and Software Engineering Labgroup (ISSEL) and has been created to provide environmental impact calculation, sustainability education, environmental news access, and eco-friendly lifestyle guidance functionality, whether accessible to you via mobile app or other platform (our services, together with the Application, are the “Services”) by visitors and users of the Services (“you” and/or “your”).

This Privacy Policy sets out ECO-READY policy with respect to information, including in particular information which identifies you personally (known as ‘personally identifiable information’ in the USA or ‘personal data’ in the European Union, which together we’ll call “Personal Data”) and other information that is collected from visitors and users of the Services.

Please read this privacy policy carefully so that you understand how we will treat your information. By using any of our Services, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to this privacy policy. If you do not agree to this policy, please do not use any of the Services. ISSEL is a data controller under the EU legislation. We comply with the GDPR 2016/679.

Information We Collect

When you interact with us through the Application, we may collect Personal Data and other information from you, as further described below:

Personal Data That You Provide Through the Application: We collect Personal Data from you when you voluntarily provide such information, such as when you contact us with inquiries or use certain Services.

The application requests access to the following:

Internet Access: This is used to fetch environmental news articles from third-party sources. News requests are not linked to your personal identity.

Storage: May be used to cache news content temporarily and save user preferences locally on your device.

Calculator Input Data: Environmental calculator inputs (transport, water, nutrition, energy, protein, recycling) are processed locally on your device. This information is not stored externally and contains no personal information that can correlate calculations with your physical device.

Educational Content: Quiz answers and game progress are processed and stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to external servers.

Push Notifications: The application requests permission to send push notifications to your device. This includes: – Daily eco-tips and sustainability reminders – Quiz activity reminders (if inactive for extended periods) – Achievement unlock notifications when you reach milestones

You can enable, disable, or customize notification preferences at any time through the app’s Settings screen. Notification permissions can also be revoked through your device settings.

Progress and Achievement Data: The application stores the following data locally on your device to track your learning journey: – Quiz completion history (scores, dates, timestamps) – Game completion history (game names, scores, completion dates) – Achievement progress and unlock status – Activity streaks and statistics – Notification preferences and scheduling settings – Notification history (titles, messages, timestamps)

All progress data is stored locally using AsyncStorage and is never transmitted to external servers. You can view your notification history and clear it at any time through the Settings screen.

By voluntarily providing us with Personal Data, you are consenting to us using them in the context of the “Services” and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

We may store such information in our infrastructure or such in databases owned and maintained by ISSEL’s affiliates, agents or service providers, located in the European Union. The Services may use such information and pool it with other information on an anonymized and generalized basis to track, for example, the total number of users of our Services.

Our Use of Your Personal Data and Other Information

By providing us with the information about you discussed above, you consent for us to use that information in the following ways:

  • to include your anonymized data in publicly available aggregated statistics
  • to use your anonymized data for scientific purposes (in research projects, scientific publications etc.)

Our Disclosure of Your Personal Data and Other Information

ISSEL is a research group and data capturing and processing is done for scientific purposes.

Third-Party Services: The application uses EventRegistry API to fetch environmental news articles. This service may collect anonymized request data according to their privacy policy, but no personal user data is transmitted.

Legal Requirements: ISSEL may disclose your Personal Data if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to (i) comply with a legal obligation, (ii) protect and defend the rights or property of ISSEL, (iii) act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of the Services or the public, or (iv) protect against legal liability.

Your Choices

You can visit the Services without providing any Personal Data. If you choose not to provide any Personal Data, you may not be able to use certain ECO-READY Services.

Where and how we store your personal information

The information that we collect from you will be held in servers in the European Union. Most data processing occurs locally on your device and is not transmitted to external servers.

Children

ISSEL does not knowingly collect Personal Data from children under the age of 16 without written parental consent. If you are under the age of 16, please do not submit any Personal Data through the Services, unless written parental consent has been provided. We encourage parents and legal guardians to monitor their children’s Internet usage and to help enforce our Privacy Policy by instructing their children never to provide Personal Data on the Services without their permission. If you have reason to believe that a child under the age of 16 has provided Personal Data to ISSEL through the Services without a submitted parental consent, please contact us, and we will endeavor to delete that information from our databases.

Links to Other Web Sites

This Privacy Policy applies only to the Services. The Services may contain links to other web sites not operated or controlled by ISSEL (the “Third Party Sites”). The policies and procedures we described here do not apply to the Third-Party Sites. The links from the Services do not imply that ISSEL endorses or has reviewed the Third-Party Sites. We suggest contacting those sites directly for information on their privacy policies.

Security

ISSEL takes reasonable steps to protect the Personal Data provided via the Services from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no Internet or e-mail transmission is ever fully secure or error free; any transmission is at your own risk. In particular, e-mail sent to or from the Services may not be secure. Therefore, you should take special care in deciding what information you send to us via e-mail. Please keep this in mind when disclosing any Personal Data to ISSEL via the Internet. Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorized access.

Your rights

EU data protection legislation gives EU citizens the right to access information held about you. You may also email us at issel.labgroup@gmail.com to request that we delete your personal information from our database. We may retain an anonymized copy of your measured data records for legitimate purposes (research and archive purposes).
