Eikonomia Framework

Eikonomia is an integrated semantically-aware tool for the description and retrieval of Byzantine Artwork Information. Following the needs of the ORMYLIA Art Diagnosis Center for adding semantics to their legacy data, an ontology describing Byzantine artwork based on CIDOC-CRM, along with the interfaces for synchronization to and from the existing RDBMS have been implemented. This ontology has been linked to a reasoning tool, while a dynamic interface for the automated creation of semantic queries in SPARQL was developed. Finally, all the appropriate interfaces were instantiated, in order to allow easy ontology manipulation, query results projection and restrictions creation.

Cassandra System

A multi-agent platform that exploits data mining, in order to extract efficient models for predicting Power Settlement prices and Power Load values in typical Day-ahead Power markets. The functionality of Cassandra is discussed, while focus is given on the bidding mechanism of Cassandra’s agents, and the way data mining analysis is performed in order to generate the optimal forecasting models. Cassandra has been tested in a real-world scenario, with data derived from the Greek Energy Stock market.

ezHome Framework

ezHome provides the residents of a house full control over their electric appliances, information on their power consumption both in terms of the amount of KWh consumed as well as on the cost of their consumption. The platform will also work as an intermediate between the house and the power supplier. ezHome, which has been developed within the context of the diploma thesis, is based on Software Agents and provides all the aforementioned functionality, as well as the ability to schedule the operation of any device at the optimal cost-effective time slot, based on previous days KWh prices. All the operations can be performed by the user through the system’s friendly Graphical User Interface.

RDOTE – Relational Database to Ontology Transformation Engine

A necessary step for the evolution of the traditional Web into a Semantic Web is the transformation of the vast quantities of data, currently residing in Relational Databases into semantically aware data. Moreover in cases where new ontology schemata are developed, considerable experimentation with real data for testing the consistency of classes, properties and entailment rules is required. During the last decade, there has been intense research and development in creating methodologies and tools able to map Relational Databases (RDB) with the Resource Description Framework (RDF). Although some systems have gained wider acceptance in the Semantic Web (SW) community, they require users to learn a declarative language for encoding mappings, thus requiring a hard learning curve. R. is a framework for easily transporting data residing in Relational Databases into the Semantic Web. R. is available under GNU/GPL license and it provides friendly graphical user inter- faces, as well as enough expressivity for creating custom RDF dumps of relational data.

SNASim Platform – Social Network Analysis Simulator

Internet has become an integral part of everyday life: information searching, working environment, education and libraries, telemetry, security, entertainment, e-buying & e-selling are perhaps some of its services that get used.

In addition to the above services, there are Social Network Services (SNS) which are an integral part of what we call Web 2.0. These services produce on a daily basis amount of data that wait to be analyzed by inter disciplinary scientists. Towards that end, many software vendors have created specialized tools that are able to analyze and extract useful information.

What is perhaps lacking in existence is the so-called social network simulation software ie software that can create populations of users and integrate them into a digital environment of interaction keeping as far as possible the dynamic components and nature real life OSN and its users. The aim of this thesis is to analyze, design and develop a software simulator of social networks: the SNASim Platform. SNASim Platform provides tools for modeling and network configuration of the users and the simulation engine, combining rich client platform GUI and informative tools. SNASim Platform is hoping to add to the toolbox of the social network analyzer.
